Living Learning Communities

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are for students who share a common interest or academic pursuit, to live and study in a curricular and co-curricular educational environment. These communities enrich their academic experience by taking 1 class together per semester along with extracurricular activities. Hear from LMU students.

Academic Community of Excellence (ACE) | McCarthy Hall
The ACE program develops undergraduate scholars for admission into graduate and professional degree programs through an emphasis on academic distinction, undergraduate research and involvement in other scholarly or leadership activities.

First Gen Forever | Del Rey North Hall
The First-Gen Forever LLC aims to create an intersectional, identity-conscious living environment for incoming first-year, first-generation college students. Using our five program pillars: Transition, Network Building, Academic Engagement, Preparation for Post-Graduate Success, and Advocacy for Institutional Transformation, we aim to increase student success, student engagement in high-impact practices, and first-year retention.

Honors Living Learning Community (Honors) | Doheny Hall
The primary goal of the Honors LLC community is to create a learning environment where students engage in the exploration of a full and intellectual life. Facilitated by the Honors program, students will get the opportunity to experience various extracurricular events and 2 courses facilitated by Honor’s staff and faculty.

Life Science Early Awareness Program (LEAP) | Del Rey North Hall
LEAP is a living-learning community program for first-year students in the Life Sciences in the Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Students take 3 classes exclusive to LEAP students and designed to enhance student’s learning and success in pursuing careers in the life sciences.

Program for an Engineering Education Community (PEEC) | Del Rey South Hall
PEEC is a living-learning community program for first-year engineering students in the Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Specially designed courses, residential components, and various co-curricular experiences are provided and designed to integrate into a holistic learning experience for students who want to pursue careers in the engineering disciplines.

SFTV: Collaboration In Media | Del Rey South Hall
This LLC will be focused on the specialized needs of students in the School of Film and Television to emphasize the collaborative nature of media pursuits both in the college experience as well as deeper preparation for student’s future careers. Additional activities will include a studio visit, a show taping, a visit to the AMPAS museum, and social gatherings tied to major industry events, such as viewing parties for the Emmys, Golden Globes, and Oscars.

SFTV: Transfer Community | Palm South
The Transfer Living Learning Community (TRLLC) is an intentional year-long program that helps new students transition successfully into the LMU environment. Members of the Transfer Community will become leaders on campus and become involved at LMU right away, take a 1-unit Ignatian Leadership Course for both Fall and Spring Semesters, and have a peer support group to help you navigate the University environment.

Theme Housing

Our Theme Communities provide a living environment for intentional programs and extracurricular activities that center around a shared theme or common interest. These communities enhance the learning experience through extracurricular activities and programs.

International House

Celebrate cultural diversity and promote global awareness within the LMU community. Plan and host a variety of events aimed at creating an awareness of international issues and cultures.

L.A. Experience (LAX) | Whelan Hall

Take advantage of LMU’s proximity to exceptional entertainment and cultural offerings in one of the world’s greatest cities. Attend local concerts and sporting events, visit museums and historical sites and learn about the diverse people and cultures that make up this City of Angels. For incoming first­-year students only.

Leadership, Empowerment and Achievement in Desmond (LEAD) | Desmond Hall

This theme program focuses on and provides leadership skills and tools for Women. For incoming female first-year students only.

Recreation and Outdoor Adventure in Rosecrans (ROAR) | Rosecrans Hall

Get off campus to enjoy the many outdoor recreational activities unique to Southern California. Make new friends and bond with others in your building while camping, hiking, skiing, surfing or spending time at the beach. For incoming first­-year students only.

Service and Action House

Many LMU students have a passion for service and social justice. Take that commitment a step further and live according to the four pillars modeled after the Jesuit Volunteer Corps: service, social justice, community and spirituality. Assume leadership roles and make a difference in the lives of others by participating in a variety of social justice, community action and diversity programs on and off campus.

Transfer Community

This community focuses primarily on the needs of second-year transfer students, helping these new students transition successfully into the LMU environment through peer support and leadership opportunities.
