SUSTAINABLE LIVING IN LION NATION

WATER WORKS

TAKE SHORTER SHOWERS:

If every resident on campus reduced their showers by one minute, the campus could save an estimated 1,241,000 gallons of water -- about 25,000 bathtubs worth of water!

TURN OFF THE SINK:

When you are brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing your face. This conserves up to 300 gallons per month per person. Over the course of a year, that’s 3,600 gallons of water per person, or 11,556,000 gallons of water in student housing a year. That’s enough water to fill LMU’s Olympic swimming pool over 20 times.

APARTMENTS:

Fill your sink with water to wash dishes instead of leaving the water running.

USE A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE:

At one of our bottle filling stations.

REPORT LEAKS:

Report leaks to Facilities Management at 310.338.7779.

ENERGY ENLIGHTENMENT

SWITCH OFF ALL LIGHTS:

When you leave your room or apartment.

UNPLUG ALL APPLIANCES:

Including chargers, powerstrips and even cell phones/computers. Devices plugged in but not charging still use energy.

POWER DOWN:

Or place computers/monitors to sleep.

ALTER YOUR THERMOSTAT:

To a more neutral temperature or turn off fans if you are out of the room.

WASTE WISDOM

PROPERLY DISPOSE OF ALL WASTE:

In our recycle bins located across campus.

REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE:

Donate what you are not using to those in need, sell it, or hand it off to friends. Recycle all plastics, papers, cardboard, containers, glass, and other single use items, as they are valuable to producing new products.

HANNON AND TENDERICH RESIDENTS:
(LMU COMPOSTING PROGRAM)

Bring your food waster to the collection site in Hannon to reduce our eco-footprint.

COMING SOON:

We anticipate expanding composting to all apartment residents.
